I met an entrepreneur from Turkey yesterday for a coffee. He was born in Turkey since high school and spent his time in Europe and the Middle East mostly. His family is pretty diverse. Grandmoms of each of his parents are from Europe. (non-Turkish) English is technically his first language.
He said to me: I’m the first person in my family who didn’t go to university. Even my grandfather’s father went to college.
And, I said to him:- I’m the first one in my family who went to college:)
He educated himself by starting a bunch of companies in Dubai last 16 years and now starting a new one in the USA. No need to go to school if you know the right people either from your family or business relationship. You are in a real-life university. Every day is a school day. Every moment is a quiz but you always learning.
